Where he slept: Spalding Inn, Whitefield (Steigerwald); the book suggests he camped
On the way out he drove north through Vermont on US 5 and east on US 2 into the White Mountains. The book suggests he camped, but Bill Steigerwald's research puts him at the Spalding Inn in Whitefield, where he had to borrow a jacket and tie for dinner.
