Can your dog actually hike here?
Can dogs hike in Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument?
Yes Yes. A leashed dog can use the trails.
Leashed dogs (6-ft leash) are welcome throughout the monument: trails, campsites and the Loop Road. Only the huts are off limits.
Where dogs can go
The Katahdin Loop Road overlook at mile 6.5, the Barnard Mountain trail, Wassataquoik Stream and the Loop Road campsites.
What we do instead
Cut Sep 28: too far north for the 5-day New England loop.
Watch out for
No services and no cell signal inside; the Loop Road is 14 miles of gravel and closes in bad weather.
