Can dogs hike in Carlsbad Caverns National Park?
No No. Dogs stay off the trails.
Dogs are banned from the cavern, the unpaved trails and even the visitor center.
Where dogs can go
Roads, parking areas, picnic areas, overlooks and paved paths.
What we do instead
The cave happens only if a dog sitter is booked in Carlsbad. The park's day-use kennel is not something we use. No sitter, no cave: we drive straight from Alamogordo to Marfa instead.
NM. On our route: around Nov 30 to Dec 5. Rules change: check the park's own pet page before you go. Rhea is never boarded or kenneled; where she can't go, we find somewhere she can.
